Diet Coke Eruption

This was one of our favourite experiments.

As the mentos dropped into the coke, more carbon dioxide bubbles were produced which resulted in the eruption.

Tooth Decay Egg Experiment

Can sugary or acidic drinks really weaken our teeth?

Since egg shells are similar to tooth enamel, we examined hard-boiled egg shells soaked for 2 days in various drinks to see if the sugary drinks weakened the tooth enamel/egg shell.

The children had some very interesting thoughts and predictions before carrying out our experiment.

Making Marbleised Artwork with Shaving Foam

Shaving foam is a mix of soap and water with a gas that can

turn liquid to foam when it's sprayed out of the bottle.

Liquid food colouring is a mix of water and dye. When we dropped the colouring onto the foam, it did not sink in. Even when we spread the dye with a stick, there was a distinct separation. The children made a beautiful marble piece of art.

Facts about Cows, Milk and Grass Webinar

On Friday, the children were very fortunate to engage in a webinar hosted by Teagasc and VistaMilk SFI Research Centre scientists. They answered kids’ questions all about cows, milk and grass during this fun interactive session.

Questions like, “why is milk white if grass is green?” and “how do you know if a cow is healthy?” and many more were answered. It was a great way to learn about where our glass of milk or the butter on our bread comes from.
